14 behind-the-scenes photos of Clint Eastwood at work and play in his early career

These candids show Eastwood at work and play during the 50s and 60s

Clint Eastwood has become such an icon of Hollywood, it's hard to remember that he was once just an up-and-coming actor on a TV show. Playing Rowdy Yates on the hit western Rawhide opened a lot of doors for the San Francisco kid.

We though we'd pay tribute to this legend with a look back at his early days.

Enjoy these candid snapshots of Clint, family, and friends at work and leisure in the 1950s and 1960s.

Maggie makes tea while Clint sucks down some O.J. in costume one fine morning during the production of Rawhide. We love the goofy photo of the couple behind his hand.

You wouldn't figure Eastwood for a dachshund owner, would you?

Behind the Camera

Clint plays with his new camera at home. On the wall, you can see ephemera of his Rawhide career, from a TV Cover to an honorary membership into the Pettis County Historical Society, Sedalia, Missouri.

This is probably the preppiest Eastwood has ever looked. Don't tell him we said that.

Look Who's Talking

Eastwood, in the middle, earned his first screen credit for a role in Francis in the Navy, a naval comedy featuring Francis the Talking Mule. Eastwood was no stranger to talking equines. He also appeared on Mister Ed.

Eastwood made his screen debut with an uncredited role on Revenge of the Creature, which can sometimes be seen on MeTV's own Svengoolie. Here is a headshot from around the time of that 1955 feature.

Clint has always been one of the sexiest men alive imho. I had quite a crush on him when I was much younger. Chuck Norris is also very sexy to me. Not so much in the early years, but as he grew older and was playing the role of Walker, Texas Ranger. To me, sexy is not so much being physically strong and tough (though that helps), but using that strength to help protect and take care of others. Also having the faith to stand up for what you believe is right is very sexy.

I enjoyed MeTV's showing Clint Eastwood on Highway Patrol fairly recently. - Motorcyle A (Episode aired 2 April 1956)

Might just be me but i don't think the photos need a catch phrase. It kind of trivializes how (sort of) candid and natural they actually are. Keeping in mind that all celebrities of the time (and their studio presence) were well aware of every photo taken!

Yes but we all love to give it our own personal meaning to some extent. Mine would be the following plus trying to squeeze a little humor into some. Here goes nufin.

Adult Swim- You're going in Maggie like it or not. Jaws awaiting.
For The Birds- It's nice Maggie but it's no Picasso
Arm Day- and you all thought I was just a pretty face.
Breakfast of Champions- Now if you just throw a shot or two of Vodka into my OJ we will be all set for the day.
C'mon, baby…Come on let's twist again, like we did last summer! Yeaaah, let's twist again, like we did last year.
Rowdy in Tokyo-Now if you boys will just throw in some of your best Sake we can talk about it.
Dip and Dog-Honey? I didn't know rats could swim
Behind the Camera- Now if I can just get this camera to work. Then point at the mirror I will then call it a selfie.
No Horsing Around- remember when you were horsing around on the phone and got me into trouble Mr. Ed? Well this is gonna be your payback.
Lacoste of Fame- Is a nice day in the neighborhood and I'm ready to get it going..............
Look Who's Talking- If you could talk as good as Francis here you would be an Admiral by now.
Swing Set- Kyle swings like a pendulum do
A budding star- You're looking at him, that be me
Hand in Hand- What we have here is NOT a failure to communicate

I recently saw Clint on an episode of MR ED from the early 1960s. It must have been while he was on RAWHIDE because he was playing himself. It must be one of his biggest embarrassments as the entire episode seemed little more than a plug for RAWHIDE.

Yes ha ha. Mr Ed messes with Clint on a party line to thwart his plans. Though by 1962 Rawhide was well upon its way to stardom. Never hurts to keep your rep built up though. Clint wants to find the joker and break his back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42IDcbyyNww.
