Before someone says "his name is spelled 'Rains'"- I meant it as, he totally rules as the legendary literary figure from the depths of the Paris sewers- the dreaded Phantom- as Claude Rains takes a Technicolor turn into terror as the "Phantom of the Opera"!

This 1943 version of the story introduces us to one Erique Claudin- whose career in the opera orchestra appears to be ending, due to some physical difficulty. Unbeknownst to anyone, he has been funding the musical training of the lovely Christine, an opera soprano whom he feels has great potential- not to mention that he is obsessed with her.
