Did these TV stars play their other famous roles before or after their hit series?

Was Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins before he had his own show?

For the Clint Eastwoods of the world, television was undoubtedly the springboard that lead to film parts and eventually worldwide stardom. But for many other people, it can be harder to tell the order of things. Some actors had careers in movies before transitioning to television while others had multiple famous roles in TV and film.

Here are some of our favorite classic TV stars in roles big and small. Can you guess if each one came before or after their TV series?

  1. Was Martin Milner in the road trip series 'Route 66' before or after Adam-12?
  2. Was Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins before or after his show had already started?
  3. Did Gary Burghoff play Radar O'Reilly in the MASH movie before or after the show?
  4. Was Lee Majors the Six Million Dollar Man before or after he was in The Big Valley?
  5. Did Don Knotts star in the film 'The Ghost and Mr. Chicken' before or after he was a regular on The Andy Griffith Show?
  6. Did Ron Howard make American Graffiti before or after Happy Days started?
  7. Did Eva Gabor provide a feline voice in Disney's 'The Aristocats' before or after Green Acres started?
  8. Did Raymond Burr play a reporter named Steve Martin in the American version of the original Godzilla before or after starting Perry Mason?
  9. Did Donna Douglas star in the classic Twilight Zone episode "Eye of the Beholder" before or after starting The Beverly Hillbillies?
  10. Before Law & Order there was Arrest and Trial, but did Chuck Connors star in this short-lived series before or after The Rifleman?
  11. Did Fred MacMurray star in the Disney film 'The Absent-Minded Professor' before or after My Three Sons started?
  12. Did Carol Burnett guest star in Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. before or after starting her own show?
  13. Was Carolyn Jones in the classic horror film 'House of Wax' before or after she became Morticia Addams?

Did these TV stars play their other famous roles before or after their hit series?

10 of 13! 10, I had no clue. 11 surprised me. And 12 was so obscure it was almost unfair.

10/13. The Rifleman was set for a sixth season, which would kick off with Lucas and Lou getting married. Patricia Blair, Paul Fix, and Johnny Crawford had all signed their contracts. But Chuck Connors’ new wife thought he was above doing westerns and wanted him in a more sophisticated role where he could wear a suit and tie. So he quit The Rifleman and immediately signed to do the crime show “Arrest and Trial,” where he played a defense lawyer in a suit. But that show was canceled after one season.

And had Chuck stayed for another Rifleman season, the show was being expanded to hour long episodes and was to be filmed in color. It was to be another log running series like Bonanza. But it never happened. 😪

The Fred MacMurray question got me…I thought he did the movie before “My Three Sons.”

I don't do this quiz because I don't know most of these but I do remember watching Mary Poppins when I was a little girl in Italia. I have also seen it in English. Would you like to see the Italian version of one of it famous songs?

Mention Dick Van Dyke to anyone in England, Scotland, or Wales AND instantly they will remark on that terrible Cockney accent that Dick Van Dyke had in "Mary Poppins."

His imitation is Stan Laurel was actually good.
