The answer was obvious to those who knew G.I. only ran for 3 seasons (1964-Apr. 1967), so there was no new episodes in 1968 as well as 1969. It was supposed to be renewed, but the wife of the CBS programmer demanded "Gunsmoke" stay on, so G.I. was axed to keep it on (1955-75) in the Fall of 1967. G.I. could have filmed color episodes in the Fall of 1967, and the Dick Van Dyke Show would have probably done so in the Fall of 1966, for its 6th season, had it stayed on past June 1 of that year.
If I had THOUGHT about it I would have gotten it on the first try. I knew "Gilligan's Island" was one of the shows in production at the time of JFK's death in 1963, the show only lasted 3 years, so it COULDN'T have a new episode in 1969. DUH!
