Though beauty isn’t everything, it’s certainly helpful in Hollywood. However, Lauren Tewes didn’t feel that it was a wise choice to rely solely on her beauty throughout her career.

Tewes played Julie McCoy in the hit sitcom, The Love Boat. A dedicated actor, Tewes spoke about her career during an interview with The Evening Sun.

“I’ve never been a glamour girl,” said Tewes.“My focus has always been on acting, not looks. Suzanne Somers is a lot sexier than I am, and do you know what? I don’t care...“I’m a serious actress, and I intend to stay in this business until I’m 80. You don’t have to be a sex symbol, a marvelous tennis player, or a fine singer to succeed. I know that for a fact, because I am a flop at all those things.”

Of course, Tewes’ dedication to her craft was a decision well made. The actor’s success on The Love Boat launched her career, turning her into a television star. Despite this, Tewes wasn’t interested in the glamour that came with stardom. She was simply happy to enjoy a bit of certainty in her life.

“Having a substantial income has enabled me to live in a nice house, buy a dog, a new car, and have a big wedding,” said Tewes. “I feel somewhat secure these days because I have always worried all my life about running out of money.”
