George Wendt returns as Santa in 'Elf: The Musical' for a limited time

Audiences in New York and Boston can see the 'Cheers' actor perform as Santa this holiday season.

For many families today, the 2003 film Elf has become a holiday staple, featuring Will Ferrell as the bright-eyed Buddy, alongside MeTV regulars Bob Newhart as Papa Elf and Ed Asner as Santa. We loved it because it called upon some of our favorite actors to deliver to modern audiences some old-fashioned Christmas cheer. Then, in 2010, we saw the movie get made into a hit Broadway musical, and we also saw another old favorite, George Wendt, cast to fill Ed Asner's oversized boots to play Santa in Elf: The Musical.

The New York Times described Wendt's performance as "jolly-wry," and for a limited time, audiences can get a second chance to see Wendt as Santa in Boston and New York this holiday season. According to Playbill.com, Wendt will appear as Santa from November 28–December 10 at the Wang Theatre in Boston and from December 13–29 in Madison Square Garden in New York.

Catch the Emmy-winning actor if you can, because he's never failed to deliver when it comes to spreading good Cheers.
