For one of the biggest stars on Gilligan's Island, Dawn Wells lived a relatively regular daily life. According to an interview with the Macon News, Wells enjoyed activities like canning jam and spending time with her partner. However, her work tended to follow her home sometimes.

"When I get home it takes me about an hour to get out of my makeup," she said.

Wells also kept pets, including a stray sparrow she rehabilitated and named Lyndal Bird.

"Lyndal Bird fell out of a tree three years ago when it was just a baby," Wells said. "I kept him in a shoe box and took him to work with me. Now he's a wonderful pet."

While Wells enjoyed the company of her husband and animals, there was one group of people she didn't particularly enjoy socializing with: actors.

"I don't care much for actors as close buddies," she said. "All they want to talk about is show business. And I don't enjoy that very much."

Given what Wells shared in the interview, this makes perfect sense. While the actor enjoyed her profession, she also enjoyed the simplicities that regular everyday life afforded her. Still, after starring on Gilligan's Island, there was a level of celebrity that Wells had reached that was seemingly inescapable. Even then, Wells wouldn't trade her job for anything.

"The good has outweighed the bad," Wells said in an interview with the Reno Gazette-Journal. "No question about that. I'm very, very grateful. I can pick and choose what I do. It's given me an identity that I cherish...Mary Ann was a very good role model. There isn't a Mary Ann on television today. There's not a young, nice girl that isn't experienced, over twelve. I mean, it's a different world and I think that's why Mary Ann is embraced so much."
