Was this a chart-topping pop song in 1969 or 2019?

Travel down the "Old Town Road" to the age of "Aquarius."

In 1969, it was hard to scan through the radio dial without hearing "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In." This year, "Old Town Road" seemed to be thumping inside every car and sports arena.

You can certainly hear the difference between the pop music of then and now — but can you read the difference?

Below, we've gathered the titles of huge hits from 2019 and fifty years ago. All but one of them were No. 1 smashes.

Can you put them into the correct era?

  1. "Sugar, Sugar"
  2. "Sucker"
  3. "Sunflower"
  4. "Hot Fun in the Summertime"
  5. "Hot Girl Summer"
  6. "God's Country"
  7. "In the Ghetto"
  8. "Dizzy"
  9. "Truth Hurts"
  10. "I Can't Get Next to You"
  11. "7 Rings"
  12. "In the Year 2525"
  13. "Without Me"
  14. "Honky Tonk Women"
  15. "A Boy Named Sue"
  16. "Bad Guy"

Was this a chart-topping pop song in 1969 or 2019?

16/16. This one was easy. If I never heard of the song, I clicked on 2019. I was right every time.

Very easy. If I recognized the song, 1969. If I didn't, 2019.

I stopped listening to pop music about 20 years ago.

16/16. I've never heard of any of the 2019 songs but I've heard of all of the 1969 songs, so I just voted 2019 if it was something I never heard of.

Exactly what I did. The 1969 songs all obviously we're #1 hits and have been played basically daily for 50 years.

Easy if I didn't know the song it was for 2019.

That was fairly easy. If I haven't heard of a song, it must be 2019

''You got 13 out of 16'' -----------------Has pop music changed since 1969? Yes. Yes, it has.

Love MeTV. Our cable company here in East Tennessee can't get it right. Continually the program freezes or blacks out.
Mine just dumped Heroes & Icons. :-(

Our entire state dumped Decades. North Carolina. (Blows Raspberries!)

16/16. Has pop music changed since 1969? Yes. Yes, it has. And it absolutely sucks today. I can't believe what passes for music these days.

16/16. I agree that most of the music now doesn't compare to the classic of the 50's thru 70's. I only listen to CD's or the Oldies station. Used process of elimination on about half of these. If I didn't recognize the song title, it was from 2019.

Said your parents too.

Every older complains about the tastes of the younger.

O tempora o mores

I agree with you however, I stand by my comment. Today's music is terrible. I know a few 20 & 30 somethings who agree & prefer our generations music.
