Can you identify the top TV shows of 1989 from one image?

Recognize these Top 20 hits from the opening credits alone?

Sitcoms ruled in 1989. Out of the Top 20 shows on television, a dozen of them were comedies. A couple of them (Chicken Soup, Grand) are pretty obscure these days, but we bet you know the rest of them. Elsewhere on the dial, lawyers and cops entertained us with their cases.

Below, you will find images from the opening credits of 1989's most popular TV shows. They all pulled in more than 15 million viewers according to the Nielsen ratings and ranked in the Top 20. See if you can name them. Some of them can be seen on MeTV, if you need a hint. Good luck!

This commenting system truly sucks. A fine example of fixing something that wasn't broken.

I agree with you 100%!! There was nothing wrong with the old system. You could edit your comments, with this one you can't.

Only 10/11 - never watched "Golden Girls"!

But it would have been a *real* challenge if you hadn't printed who owns what image under most of the photos (e.g. Disney-ABC gave away "Golden Girls" a bit, although I did recognize the airplane in the sunset. And, I wasn't sure about "Dear John" until I saw the CBS Television Distribution credit under the photo; Paramount Television originally produced that show, and Paramount Television has since been folded into CBS Television Studios. Likewise for "Roseanne" until I saw Carsey-Werner under the photo).

11/11. I mainly remember that year because that was when "Batman" starring Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson was released.

10/11. Pretty good! Where was Coach? That started in 89'. I guess It hadn't been on long enough to be a "top show." My faves from the 80's are Newhart, Perfect Strangers, and Coach.

I watched most of these shows when I was growing up in the '90s.

10 out of 11. I was a teenager in 1989. I watched all of the shows listed, except Dear John, Roseanne, Matlock, and Unsolved Mysteries. My favorite shows from the 80's are Mama's Family and Newhart. I got the Unsolved Mysteries question wrong.
