An Egyptian Import Avoids Tariffs and Brings Terror to the U.S.- It's "The Mummy’s Tomb"-Tonight!

Posted on December 6, 2025

Tonight on MeTV- with the holidays coming up, we get into wrapping early- when we pay rapt attention to a well-wrapped Egyptian in this continuation of the series from Universal's original classic period- as a thought-to-be dead menace is exported to the U.S. to get revenge on those who defiled his beloved's burial crypt. As is often the case online- a foreign pyramid scheme causes major problems in this country- now emanating from "The Mummy's Tomb"!

This is the follow-up to the first Mummy sequel, 1940 "Mummy's Hand", released two years later in 1942- but supposedly taking place 30 years after the events of the last film. The story opens in Mapleton, Massachusetts, at the home of the Banning family- where the father, Steve, regales his relatives with tales of the battle he and his group had with the living Mummy Kharis- notably supported by a heaping helping of stock footage from that previous film. He feels confident that Kharis is no more- but- we learn differently as, back in Egypt, the barely surviving high priest who protected Kharis-who was thought to be dead himself- reveals to his protege, Mehemet Bey, that Kharis has survived as well! He decrees that his young follower must take the Mummy to America on a mission- to kill the Banning family and their associates! He teaches Bey the formula for use of tana leaves to keep the Mummy alive and mobile- and then, the young man and the crated-up mummy head out on an ocean voyage to the American town of Mapleton.

This new protector of Kharis manages to secure the job of cemetery caretaker- which allows him to ensconce the mummy Kris safely in a tomb, as the movie title has already revealed. He revives Kharis with the tana leaf tea, and sends him out to begin his mission- to destroy anyone connected with the desecration of the resting place of his beloved Ananka- with his first victim scheduled to be our storyteller from the top of the movie, Steve Banning.

Soon, Kharis is working to eliminate anyone connected to the original Banning expedition- but, despite some telltale signs of who (or what) is committing the murders, the local police are baffled. Original expedition member (and comic relief in “Mummy’s Hand”) Babe arrives and tries to give them the hard-to-believe answer. Meanwhile, as often happens in the Mummy series, Mummy caretaker and priest/protector Mehemet Bey has fallen for a woman involved- the fiancée of Banning’s son- and changes the plan slightly to use Kharis in order to make her his OWN high priestess!

"The Mummy's Tomb" is a fitting sequel to "The Mummy's Hand" (and, to some extent, Karloff's original "Mummy")- and we get members of the "Hand" cast, along with Turhan Bey as the new priest- and , in his first portrayal of the Mummy, Lon Chaney Jr. as Kharis - a role he wasn't too keen on, due to the make-up! We'll talk about the cast, have some tidbits about the production- along with a special commercial, visits from Gwengoolie and Boddy Sorrell, some Sven screw-ups from our “OOPS Files”, a Sven song- AND- since the movie is short- a very special feature from a 1960s TV show that I count as among my many influences.

We again unseal "The Mummy's Tomb” tonight on MeTV at 8pm eastern/pacific, 7 central time. Need to check for time and channel where you are? Just hit your local listings or check in at www.metv.com. Join in with the viewers who live-post comments during the movie on both Bluesky and Twitter/X- just make sure to use the hashtag #svengoolie on either with your posts and/or Tweets. Please be aware that, with this being one of our shorter movies, and being on a holiday production schedule, this show goes back to our original run time of 2 hours for this week- which means you also get a bonus episode of “Batman”! This morning, our Chicago area viewers can enjoy an encore of the vengeance of a vile ventriloquist thanks to his “Devil Doll” at 11 am on WCIU the U.
