All hands on deck for tonight's feature film - "Idle Hands"

Posted on June 13, 2026

Summertime … and the living’s easy. But the dying is even easier! Average American teenager Anton seems to have it all: 2 loving parents, 2 best friends and his crush Molly living right across the street. But he wakes up on Halloween morning with one small problem: a whole lot of people around him are dead or dying. Fast. And gruesomely. And Anton is increasingly losing control of his own right hand. Throw in a druidic high priestess, some local cops, his monster-truck driving neighbor Randy and more late-90s cameos than Being John Malkovich. Tonight, on MeTV - The Sven Squad – Gwengoolie, Nostalgiaferatoo and IMP aka Ignatius Malvolio Prankenstein along with The Man In The Hat himself – Svengoolie – are premiering 1999’s “Idle Hands” on House of Svengoolie.

It’s 1999 and teenager Anton (Devon Sawa) is just trying to get by (while also often getting high). His best friends Nick (Seth Green) and Pnub (Elden Henson) are also following Anton’s life goals, supporting his efforts and mocking him as only male teenagers can. Anton wakes up on Halloween morning to discover his parents (Fred Willard & Connie Ray) unfortunately aren’t going to be handing out candy that night. Terrified at his find and the realization that he’s losing control of his right hand which seems to be possessed with a mind of its own, Anton turns to Nick and Pnub for help. But the only help anyone’s giving, is Anton’s right hand in helping Nick and Pnub be not long for this world. But they are long for this movie. Sheesh. Anton tries to keep his hand occupied, but that doesn’t stop it from going on a real tear.

So Anton spends the rest of the film trying to woo the girl of his dreams – neighbor Molly (Jessica Alba), outrun a druidic high priestess (Vivica A. Fox) who’s trying to “take care of” Anton’s hand, sidestep local police, steer clear of his gudge-bearing neighbor Randy (Jack Noseworthy), attend the dance at his school where the band The Offspring is playing and manage to still run into additional cameos from Ricky Martin, Kelly Monaco, Tom DeLonge, Kyle Gass, Joey Slotnick … you get the idea. Everybody dropped by this film set in 1999 to party and apparently perform walk on cameos.

This 1999 film was produced by Columbia Pictures and distributed by Sony Pictures. This was director Rodman Flender directorial debut! He went on to direct episodes of hit series like Gilmore Girls, The O.C. and The Office. Critics didn’t love this film when it was released, and audiences didn’t really come out when the film came out. It made just over $4 million dollars in theaters against its $25 million dollar budget. Thumbs down. Ouch. Idle Hands did earn a Teen Choice Awards nomination for “Most Disgusting Scene.” Unfortunately, they lost out to There’s Something About Mary that year. Tough competition.

Tonight Imp leads Gwengoolie and Nostalgiaferatoo through everyone’s favorite film talk show “Coffin Convos.” Gwengoolie takes the boys into a classic commercial encouraging folks to say “no” to suspect spices like paprika and oregano. Svengoolie goes out “On The Road” and brings Gwen, Nosti & IMP to C2E2 in Chicago to do a panel for the audience there, sign some autographs and spread goodwill.

“Idle Hands” starts at 8 pm Eastern/Pacific time, 7 pm Central on MeTV. You can join in the live chat during the show on Bluesky, or the live Tweeting on Twitter/X - just be sure to include the hashtag #svengoolie and #houseofsvengoolie on your posts on either one. Our Chicago area audience can another watch of 1957’s terrifying “Curse Of The Demon” with Sven at 11:00 a.m. Central on WCIU the U.

Please remember that next week, Svengoolie is back with the 1946 Abbott and Costello classic “The Time of Their Lives” at 8 pm Eastern/Pacific time, 7 pm Central. It’s the best house haunted by revolutionary ghosts movie you’ll watch this summer. House of Svengoolie will see you on Saturday July 18 for 1982’s “Swamp Thing.” You make everything … swampy.

But for now, hold the applause, because you’re going to want to watch “Idle Hands” on House of Svengoolie right here on MeTV!
