MeTV pays tribute to Charlotte Rae on Sunday, August 12

Tune in for special episodes of 'Diff'rent Strokes' and 'The Facts of Life.'

Earlier this week, Charlotte Rae passed away at the age of 92. In dedication to the memory of Rae, who played Mrs. Garrett on both Diff’rent Strokes and The Facts of Life, MeTV will air special episodes of these two shows this Sunday, August 12, at 2PM | 1C.

The hour begins with the first episode of The Facts of Life, followed by the Diff’rent Strokes episode that served as the pilot for the spin-off, "The Girls School."

Mrs. Garrett was first introduced in the premiere of Diff'rent Strokes, "Movin' In," as the housekeeper to the Drummond family. By the end of the first season, the character was popular enough to carry her own sitcom, as the Diff'rent Strokes season finale set up The Facts of Life.

There were some differences between the backdoor pilot and the eventual series. In "The Girls School," Kimberly's upstate school is called East Lake. This was changed to Eastland before The Facts of Life kicked off with "Rough Housing." But the characters and comedy are what you have come to know and love.

See both episodes back-to-back, and pay tribute to a wonderful star in Charlotte Rae, as we present these select episodes.

Then, tune in later to see Rae as a guest star aboard The Love Boat, at 6PM | 5C. This 1983 episode, "Youth Takes a Holiday / Don’t Leave Home Without It / Prisoner of Love," teams her with Jamie Farr of M*A*S*H.

Long before Diff'rent Strokes & Facts Of Life many of us fondly remember Charlotte Rae from Car 54 Where Are You? as Sylvia Schnauzer wife of Officer Leo Schnauzer (Al Lewis). Sad that they never reunited on any Facts Of Life episode. The episode with Mrs. Garrett's ex-husband should've casted Al Lewis. ☺
