Once you’ve lost someone important, life is never truly the same. Even when things are good, you can’t help but wish your loved one were there to enjoy it with you.

Though playing the role of Jimmy Olsen on Adventures of Superman was a stroke of luck for Jack Larson, it took him years to truly understand just how blessed he had been.

For many years, Larson struggled with the notoriety the character gave him amongst the public. After leaving acting and distancing himself from his screen career, Larson was able to truly appreciate the impact he had on acting.

“Once I adjusted, I’ve been grateful for it,” said Larson during an interview with The Associated Press. “We’ve had 50 years of celebrity from that television show. It made a lot of people happy, and once I’d resolved that my acting career was over, it’s been a great joy in my life.

When speaking of future actors who would take on the role of The Man of Steel, Larson was quick to remember his friend, George Reeves. “I certainly wish everyone who’s got to carry the cape George and Christopher had, I wish them the best and great happiness... I hope they have the success and joy that Noel [Neill] and I have had, and I wish George had had it. Our George. But he died before he ever had a mature fan. Now he has millions.”
