George Reeves loved kidding around on the set of Adventures of Superman
Reeves' co-star called the actor "tons of fun."
Jack Larson had many fond memories with his Adventures of Superman co-star, George Reeves. On screen, Reeves was Superman, flying high and saving innocents from evil-doers. Off-screen, however, Reeves was simply a friend to the young actor.
Larson, best known for his role as Jimmy Olsen on the popular superhero series, explained that Reeves would often joke around while filming on set. “George would come around the side of the wall, blow a kiss, and say, ‘Don’t worry, Superboo’s going to save you.’ He would call himself Superboo,” said Larson during an interview with The Associated Press.
Reeves’ shenanigans often led to more than a few filming mishaps, some of which actually made the final cut while making an episode. “I get asked why I’m masking a smile so much. Jimmy’s in deadly peril, and I’m laughing. It’s because George said something funny just because he breaks through the wall.”
Reeves' life was tragically cut short in 1959 when the actor passed away. Years later, it seems that the actor’s untimely death has overshadowed his vibrant life. Luckily, friends like Larson were more than willing to clear away the fog and confusion regarding Reeves’ personality.
During an interview with The Journal Times, Larson said that Reeves was “tons of fun,” and that, contrary to popular belief, the actor was “not an enigma at all.”
“People now think George was neurotic or despondent or something, but he wasn’t,” said the actor.
