How well do you actually remember ''The Legend of Barney Fife''?

Don't call it a comeback.

Barney Fife will forever be remembered as Andy Taylor's deputy, but fans of The Andy Griffith Show know that Don Knotts actually left the show after the fifth season.

But in the sixth season, just like that, Barney was back! Across two episodes, "The Return of Barney Fife" and "The Legend of Barney Fife," we saw Barney return to Mayberry briefly. That's when he meets Andy's replacement deputy and encounters perhaps the scariest situation he's personally encountered in Mayberry: an escaped prisoner he's put away who's determined to get revenge on Barney Fife.

For this quiz, we're going back through just the second episode of Barney's big return to Mayberry, "The Legend of Barney Fife." Below, we'll take you back through the classic episode and test you on your memory of the living legend Barney Fife. Good luck!
  1. In the very first scene, Barney Fife needs a cup of coffee from carrying on the previous night at which Mayberry event that brought him back to town?
  2. What’s wrong with Barney’s car that keeps him in town longer?
  3. What’s the name of the deputy who replaces Barney and meets him in this episode?
  4. Aunt Bee tells Barney the new deputy’s so good, Andy was able to take how much time off for a vacation?
  5. Pick the N.C. city where Barney's working and living that he eventually has to return to:
  6. Andy's new deputy knows exactly how Barney takes his coffee. Do you?
  7. Who does Barney say was his idol when he was a kid?
  8. Where’d Barney get that uniform he’s wearing?
  9. What’s the name of the escaped prisoner in Mayberry with a grudge against Barney Fife?
  10. What’s the job Andy gives Barney first when they decide to pursue the prisoner?
  11. Does Barney actually punch the prisoner when confronted?
  12. In the end, who does Barney want to see get the most credit for the arrest?
How well do you actually remember ''The Legend of Barney Fife''?

11/12 I missed the last one. Jack Burns always drove me up the wall so, when he'd start his "funny" crap, I usually switched the TV to something. Loved his partner Avery, though.

10/12; not too bad - it has been awhile since I have seen this episode. I prefer the black and white episodes.

You got 9 out of 12
Your memory got a little shaky there, huh?
Missed #8, #9, and #12.
I was as shaky on this quiz, as Barney is with a bullet in his gun.
Stopped watching when they moved to color.

11/12 Missed #8. I distinctly remember an episode where Andy walks out of the backroom of the courthouse holding Barney’s uniform saying he kept it there. It must have been one of the episodes where Barney "resigns". Smart of MeTV to use this as one of the incorrect answers. Dadgummit!!

8/12! Wasn't Aunt Bea kinda fudging when he said Warren was a great deputy? After all, if he was that good, why was he replaced by Goober?
Yeah Aunt Bea might have been fudging how good Warren was as a deputy and maybe one of the reasons Andy was able to take 2 weeks off was because there wasn't much going on in Mayberry at the time and not because of how good Warren was.

11/12, mostly guesses — some educated, some of the eenie meenie variety.
