Sven is Currently Seeing an “Invisible Woman”-Tonight!

Posted on September 8, 2012

Tonight on the Me-TV network- forget those TMZ rumors about Elvira currently seeing Sven-I’ll reveal exactly who I AM seeing these days! …or, at least, tonight- and it seems like this relationship won’t last, because, before too long- I won’t be seeing- the “Invisible Woman”! She’s actually quite a catch- a leggy fashion model who’s fed up with a nasty boss who mistreats her and the other glamour gals who work with her on the runway…so, when she sees an ad asking for a volunteer to be made invisible- she jumps at the chance, in hopes that she can use invisibility as a tool of revenge! Running this experiment is a somewhat off-balance scientist- whose work is funded by a woman-chasing playboy whose romantic interludes have drained his bank account dry (yes, before phishing, this was a common practice!) His prissy wise-cracking butler would rather his boss cut his ties to the loony scientist- but the chance that the invisibility experiment just might work- and make him millions as the patron of its inventor- keeps the poverty-stricken playboy from backing out of their arrangement. The young model shows up- and then- doesn’t …when the experiment works! She heads back to her workplace to cause some turmoil for that nasty boss of hers, but- meanwhile- there is more malicious intent regarding the invisibility scheme- when a trio of thugs start investigating the machine that causes the transparency. It seems their criminal boss is persona non grata in the U.S. due to charges against him- and he wants his boys to get the machine so he can turn invisible and return to the land of the free undetected! Meanwhile, romance is blooming between the playboy and the invisible babe- complicated when the criminals garb the machine- and the girl! This was the first of Universal’s “invisible” movies to go with a member of the fair sex instead of a man- and was a little more light-hearted than any of the previous “invisible” flicks. Virginia Bruce does a fine job as the unseen heroine, and Robert Lowery plays along well. Two stand-outs include John Barrymore- of the noted Barrymore family- as the wacky inventor, and 30s and 40s favorite Charlie Ruggles as the wise guy butler who isn’t above fainting at every turn. Plus- one of our favorite Stooges- the great Shemp Howard- appears as a slap-happy thug- and –Oscar Homolka plays the crime boss who wants to fade from view! We’ll give you more cast member info- and bring you the method by which some of the invisible effects were done- along with some ways to give an invisible individual some visible features! Also- a very special interview with the daughter of one of Universal’s Invisible Men- Vincent Price!!! The charming Victoria Price shares some great memories of her illustrious father, who played invisible roles in both “Invisible Man’s Return” and, at the end of “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein”. Ever wonder what Vincent’s favorite horror role was? Victoria lets us know, along with a funny story of Vinnie pulling a scary prank on her during her childhood! “Invisible Woman” appears (or doesn’t) tonight at 10 pm eastern, 9 pm central ( or, please check the listings for the time in your area) on the Me-TV network! For our Chicago area viewers- you get an encore of “Phantom of the Opera” at 11 am on WCIU- the U! Again- there is NO 3 pm U Too show this week- sorry-due to college football. (See the final U TOO showing next Saturday afternoon at 3!)
