Tonight, we kick off our month of Halloween BOO-Nanza double features at a special time (ONE HOUR EARLY) with an amazing classic and an astounding return- as the Sven Squad and I travel somewhere over that rainbow for “The Wizard of Oz”- followed by “The Invisible Man Returns”!

Do I really need to sum up the great 1939 classic story of a young girl who finds herself transported by a twister to a faraway land inhabited by little people, witches good and bad, and three loyal companions? We meet Dorothy Gale and her farm-hand friends, as well as her uncle and Auntie Em- but they have a run-in with the nasty Miss Gultch, who’s out to have Dorthy’s little dog Toto put away!

Dorothy, feeling ignored by her family and friends, takes Toto and sets out for- well, who knows? She runs into Professor Marvel- a paragon of fake psychic powers- who actually finds a way to send Dorothy back to the farm- just in time for a tornado to hit, knocking Dorothy out and sending the house into the stratosphere!

The house comes in for a bumpy landing- and when Dorothy opens the front door- she sees a colorful and strange new land! She encounters the wee race of Munchkins and then meets the lovely Good Witch Glinda- who informs her that her house has landed on the evil Wicked Witch of the East- killing her! Dorothy is upset- but is told the act is actually a good thing- that is, until the witch’s sister, the Wicked Witch of the West, shows up- and demands the mystical ruby slippers her sister wore.

When Glinda makes the shoes magically appear on Dorothy’s feet, the Wicked Witch threatens to take the ruby slippers off Dorthy’s feet- dead or alive! Thus starts the young lady’s journey to find the Wizard of Oz, who seems to be her only chance of returning home- a journey that unites her with a scarecrow who needs a brain- a tin woodsman who needs a heart- and a lion who desperately needs some courage. She also finds out that, to return home, the Wizard demands a dangerous task that will pit her against the dangerous Wicked Witch!

We’ll give you plenty of facts about the movie, its stars from Judy Garland to Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr, Jack Haley, Margaret Hamilton and more, the special effects and makeup- and the Sven Squad and I will be off to see our own Wizard- of sorts!

Then, following that movie, the Sven Squad takes a crack at a movie I’ve shown before- “The Invisible Man Returns”! Vincent Price is an innocent man framed for murder- who turns to the brother of Griffin, the original Invisible Man and begs him to make him invisible so he can escape and prove his innocence. This 1940 film costars Cedric Hardwicke as the evil head of a mining operation who has had a deadly hand in what has transpired.

The Sven Squad -Gwengoolie, the Imp and Nostalgiaferatoo- will guide you through this sequel to the original “Invisible Man”, filling you in on the production and its actors and heading in their own visible direction!

Our first BOO-Nanza double feature begins tonight AT A SPECIAL TIME- 7 pm eastern/pacific, 6 central time!
