R.I.P. Randolph Mantooth, John Gage on Emergency!

After his success in the medical drama, the actor became an advocate for emergency responders.

Randolph Mantooth, best known for his role as John Gage in the medical series, Emergency!, has passed away.

Born in 1945, Mantooth began his acting career on stage before guest starring in popular television programs like Marcus Welby, M.D., and Adam-12.

The actor’s big break came in 1972, when he began starring in Emergency! Mantooth played an emergency rescuer alongside co-star Kevin Tighe. The series ran for six seasons, finishing in 1979.

After the show's conclusion, the series spawned several TV movies in which Tighe and Mantooth reprised their roles.

The actor later became an advocate for emergency service providers, frequently speaking at firefighting and EMS conferences. In 2022, he was honored by the International Association of Fire Chiefs with the James O. Page Award.

After the success of Emergency!, Mantooth began appearing in various soap operas, including Loving, One Life to Live, and General Hospital.

The actor was 80 years old.
