R.I.P. Lynne Marta, ''Love, American Style'' regular and ''Footloose'' actor
In the Seventies, she starred in a pilot TV movie from Gene Roddenberry meant to be the next Star Trek.
Lynne Marta, who appeared on TV for decades, has passed away.
One of her most famous roles was also one of her earliest. In 1969, Marta landed a regular spot on the ABC anthology comedy series Love, American Style. These days, the show is known for the segments that got spun-off into their own shows, "Love and the Old-Fashioned Father", which became the Hanna-Barbera animated sitcom Wait Till Your Father Gets Home, and "Love and the Television Set", which became Happy Days.
Billed as "Love American Style Player", Marta appeared in eighteen episodes of the first season, including "Love and the Former Marriage", which starred a young Harrison Ford in one of his earliest roles.
Marta guest-starred on multiple Aaron Spelling-produced series as The Mod Squad, The Rookies, Starsky & Hutch, and Charlie’s Angels, as well as Quinn Martin productions like The F.B.I., Cannon, The Streets of San Francisco, and Barnaby Jones.
In 1973, she starred in the made-for-TV movie Genesis II, created and produced by Gene Roddenberry. The movie was intended to serve as a pilot for a new sci-fi TV series, but it wasn't picked up by the network.
In 1984, Marta appeared in her other well-known role in the 1984 smash hit Footloose. Marta played Lulu Warnicker, the aunt of Kevin Bacon's character Ren McCormack. Ren and his mother come to stay with Lulu and her husband in the beginning of the film, kicking off the plot.
Marta was 78 years old.
