With a successful run of seven seasons, Fantasy Island excelled at entertaining audiences while teaching them a worthwhile lesson. Since the show’s final episode in 1984, we’ve seen multiple series revivals, as well as a prequel film.

Series star Ricardo Montalbán thoroughly enjoyed the success his series had achieved. However, what truly made Fantasy Island special wasn’t the show’s success; it was the joy that went into creating the series.

“I look forward to going to work every day,” said Montalbán during an interview with the Associated Press. “I suppose if I were younger, I would experience the frustrations of doing the same thing day after day. But I realize what a lucky man I am. After all, 99.9 percent of actors face diminishing returns as they grow older. In my case, that hasn’t been true.”

Even after the show was cancelled, Montalbán remembered the series fondly.

“I’m very grateful to Fantasy Island,” the actor said in another interview with the Associated Press. “Because of it, I have, if not great wealth, at least financial security. And I have great affection for the people I worked with - the best crew I’ve known in my career. We went through births, marriages, and deaths together, and we became part of the fabric of each other’s lives. But in our business, that fabric doesn’t unravel slowly. It ends abruptly, and that is hard to get used to.”
