Leonard Nimoy said that becoming a director was a ''whole new experience''

Plenty of actors have made the successful transition from actor to director and back again. However, Leonard Nimoy considered fame a precarious beast. During an interview with the Tribune, the actor confessed that he was apprehensive to begin acting in Star Trek: The Original Series.
“I was anxious for steady work, but I took myself seriously as an actor and was concerned about what might become of me if it didn’t work,” Nimoy said. Luckily, Nimoy took on the role of Spock, making him a titan in the sci-fi entertainment industry. As the years went on, Nimoy bridged the gap and journeyed behind the camera. Though he was nervous about directing, he found it a delight, in retrospect.
“It was a whole new existence that I had never dreamed of,” said the actor. “People had been saying, ‘You should be a director.’ I would say, ‘What is wrong with acting?’ but there I was, doing it. I take great pride in producing Star Trek IV: The Undiscovered Country. That made me the only person connected with Trek who has acted, written, directed, and produced the movies.”
All in all, the actor was grateful for his time working on Star Trek, no matter the role. “I have had a great ride,” said Nimoy. “I have had countless wonderful experiences. I have met presidents and astronauts, and traveled around the world. I have no complaints. I had the opportunity to do all I ever dreamed of doing.”
