Kids used to chase Ken Osmond home because he played Eddie Haskell on Leave It to Beaver
"You're looking for a catch in everything."

Although he played an annoying little kid on Leave It to Beaver, Ken Osmond wasn't such a bad guy in real life. The young actor took on the role of Eddie Haskell in the 1950s when he was still a young man.
But although he was new to the television industry, playing Eddie made Ken Osmond a familiar face to adults and children alike. Though the actor played the two-faced character well, he worked hard to ground Eddie Haskell in reality, including motivation as to why he acted the way he did.
"Eddie's father is always kicking him in the seat of the pants, and he figures the whole world is just this way," said Osmond during an interview with The Saginaw News. "You've got to pull angles to get ahead. You're looking for a catch in everything."

*available in most MeTV marketsBeing on television certainly didn't do the young boy any favors with his classmates. Haskell confessed that he was frequently chased by other children who recognized him from television when Leave It to Beaver first began airing.
"They figured I had money," said Osmond. "I had to take off. Trouble was they came in a pack, so I couldn't take 'em one at a time."
Luckily, Osmond said that incidents like these became more infrequent as he got older. More importantly, he never let it get in the way of his love of performing.
