Jaclyn Smith had some very candid advice for aspiring actors

"Desperation is not good for anything."

Desperation can be a funny thing. While many actors shy away from it, plenty of performers find that it benefits their career. Some performers feel that something good can only form under pressure. Actors who thrive under stress find that desperation becomes the fuel that pushes them to work harder, that guides them on the road to success.

Actor Jaclyn Smith had a very different opinion. The Charlie’s Angels actor had achieved a level of success that many television actors could only dream of. However, Smith had a very philosophical mind. She seemed to view a career as more of a hamster wheel than a road.

“There is always something to achieve,” said Smith during an interview with the Los Angeles Times. “The Journey to success is never-ending.” Smith became known for her character, Kelly Garrett, in Charlie’s Angels. In addition, Smith appeared in movies like Nightkill (1980) and Déjà Vu (1985).

A rare Hollywood success story, Smith maintained a humble attitude regarding her success.

During the same interview, the actor encouraged those looking to follow in her footsteps to avoid clamoring for success. Smith explained that such desperation would only weigh you down.

“The thing is, not to be too desperate for success,” said the actor. “In fact, desperation is not good for anything. If you’re desperate, you are devastated by disappointments. When I’ve lost chances, I have never really gone to pieces.” By keeping a level head, Smith was able to approach her career with a clear mind.
