David Doyle said that starring in Charlie's Angels wasn't as glamorous as viewers might have thought
The actor said it was far from a "fantasy."
Working on a sitcom can feel like a dream come true for many actors, especially if you’re working with some very beautiful, very talented women. David Doyle, better known as John Bosley, starred in Charlie’s Angels during the show’s original five-year run.
Doyle explained that despite the glamorous haze that seemed to be associated with the series, acting on Charlie’s Angels was a far different reality than many viewers seemed to believe.
“Working with angels is a very good duty,” said Doyle during an interview with the Omaha World-Herald. “But it’s nothing like the fantasy that the male viewer imagines.”
First and foremost, Doyle was an actor, dedicated to his craft. “I can’t remember when I didn’t want to act, didn’t want to be up on a stage,” said the actor. As such, much of his energy was spent trying to be the best Bosley he could possibly be. “Really, there’s a tremendous amount of work involved in producing an hour-long show,” said the actor. We are busy eight months out of the year; my contract with Aaron Spelling calls for 24 episodes, and each requires at least a week.”
The series made Bosley a star, though he was quick to share his stardom with those around him.“I can’t point out any one person who boosted my career,” said the actor. “There were many people who were instrumental, and I wouldn’t want to name one and possibly slight another.”
