With excellent chemistry on their hit show, Hart to Hart, it’s no wonder that the sitcom wasn’t the first meeting between actors Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers.

During an interview with the Manchester Evening News, Wagner revealed that previously, the two had met when Powers appeared on an earlier television program of his. “Stefanie had been a guest star in my other television series, It Takes a Thief,” said Wagner. The action series ran for three seasons on ABC and starred Wagner as a thief working for the government.

Powers only appeared in one episode of the series. However, this small meeting was enough for Wagner to recognize something promising in Powers.

“Somehow, I felt that the chemistry was just right,” said the actor. "She had the style and class to carry a show that depended on personality and lavish backgrounds, rather than just storylines.”

Later, when the producers of Hart to Hart were searching for an actor to play Jonathan Hart’s better half, Wagner was quick to recommend Powers. “I think I’ve been proved right,” said the actor. “The fan letters that we get, apart from showing that many people enjoy watching us both in jet-set surroundings, also make it clear that the majority enjoy spending an hour watching Stefanie on their screens.”

The series gave Powers an opportunity to showcase her talent to the world on a wildly popular television series. “I really love the scripts,” said Powers. “The writing, too, is superb. The scripts are far better than any I’ve had before.”
