Farrah Fawcett ignored critics' comments about her
"I don’t read most of the things about me."
Sometimes, ignorance truly is bliss. Obviously, there is a time and place for facing your problems head-on, but sometimes, the most emotionally healthy thing to do is to ignore the things that are causing you strife.
Starring in Charlie’s Angels launched Farrah Fawcett into the stratosphere of success. Fawcett had previously had television roles on smaller programs like Barnaby Jones, but it was her role as Jill Monroe that truly made her a star.
But with great fame comes even greater criticism. During an interview with The Dallas Times Herald, Fawcett was pressed about negative reviews and fans of the series who expressed a dislike of her characters.
The actor’s advice? Ignore the bad press.
“I go through life thinking everything is wonderful,” said the actor. “People keep things from me. I don’t read most of the things about me. You almost have to quit reading to keep from being hurt. Writers write unflattering things about you because that sells.”
Starring in the series also robbed Fawcett of the opportunity to live a “normal life.” Those who hated her were constantly deriding her performance, while many fans were incapable of giving her the space she so desperately needed.
“Sometimes I get sad,” said the actor. “I just want to go out and be myself. I would like to go shopping or go to the movies, buy popcorn, and sit in the audience. But I am constantly watched. Things like going to dinner with friends become very precious.”
