Cheryl Ladd didn't want people comparing her to Farrah Fawcett
Though both were Angels, the two actors were different.
They say that comparison is the thief of joy, and no actor seemed to understand that better than Cheryl Ladd.
Ladd is perhaps best known as Kris Monroe of Charlie’s Angels. She joined the cast during the second season, after the departure of series star, Farrah Fawcett-Majors. Viewers and critics alike couldn’t help but believe that Kris was intended as a replacement for Fawcett’s character, Jill Monroe. Ladd maintained that it wasn’t the case. She wasn’t the new Farrah Fawcett; she was a star in her own right.
“What I really hate are the comparisons to Farrah,” said Ladd during an interview with the United Feature Syndicate. “I’m a singer. I can dance. I’m a performer. I’m not just another pretty face.”
Ladd described feeling out of place at a young age, leading to her isolation as a child. “I was really an outcast,” said the actor. “I didn’t get along well with my peers. I had this great sense of self. I kept my grades up. Some people thought I was a snob, and that intimidated them. Some were cold and unfriendly. Some were downright nasty.”
But as she grew older and more beautiful, the actor discovered a love of performing. She had no intention of following in Fawcett’s footsteps. Instead, Ladd was determined to pave the way for herself.
“I have no ambition to be a beauty-industry queen,” said the actor. “I have never met Farrah-Fawcett Majors. I never heard of Farrah Fawcett Majors before Charlie’s Angels.”
