The stars of some of TV's greatest shows will come together this weekend to honor James Burrows. The name may not sound familiar, but chances are you're familiar with his work.

He's directed over 1,000 episodes of classic TV shows like The Bob Newhart Show, Taxi, Cheers and Friends. This Sunday, NBC will honor his work with a special called "Must See TV: A Tribute to James Burrows."

Burrows got his start on The Mary Tyler Moore Show by directing the 1974 episode "Neighbors." He directed four more episodes of the series before moving on to other classic comedies. In total, he directed 11 episodes of The Bob Newhart Show, eight episodes of Laverne & Shirley, 75 episodes of Taxi, and a whopping 237 episodes of Cheers (that's all but 33 episodes)

Being a man of his craft, Burrows didn't stop after the success of Cheers. He went on to direct episodes for hit sitcoms like Friends, Frasier, and Will & Grace. This spring, his 1,000th episode will air on the yet-to-debut sitcom Crowded.

Sunday night, the casts of Cheers, Taxi, Friends, and more series will come together to honor the legendary television director. With a resume as large as his, it's about time he got some recognition!
