Carol Burnett and Vicki Lawrence shared an unforgettable reunion during the second season of Palm Royale
Burnett said that seeing her friend was "like old times."
With social media these days, the idea of a reunion can often feel superfluous. But an in-person reunion can warm the heart more than any instant message ever could. Seeing an old friend in person allows for an unparalleled intimacy. What’s the point of walking down memory lane if you’re not doing it hand in hand?
After spending so many years together working on The Carol Burnett Show, one might understand if co-stars Carol Burnett and Vicki Lawrence had more than had their fill of each other. However, the two remained close after the series ended, as Lawrence saw Burnett as a comedic mentor.
Audiences were thrilled to learn that the two women had reunited on screen for the second season of the popular series, Palm Royale.
Burnett, who starred in the series, said that it was a delight to share the screen with her old friend.“Being with Vicki again was like old times,” said Burnett during an interview with Parade. “I mean, it was as if all the years had not passed, and here we are together again...It really was such fun. And when she showed up on the set, you know, it was, as I say, it’s like the years just washed away. And here we were again, you know, Carol and Vicki together.”
The gathering was orchestrated by Palm Royale creator, Abe Sylvia, who cast Lawrence as the mother of Norma Dellacorte, played by Burnett.
“What happened was Abe Sylvia called Vicki and said, ‘Okay, we would like you to be on the show, and you’ll be Carol’s mother,’” said Burnett. “And Vicki said, ‘So what else is new?'”
Sylvia, a fan of both actors, admitted that the reunion was more than just a physical one. “It will go down as truly one of the most touching moments I’ve ever borne witness to,” said Sylvia.
