Adam West is known as one of the greatest actors of his generation, with the filmography to prove it. But with so much talent, it might surprise fans of his work that he wasn’t just a gifted performer; he was a dutiful performer.

“Adam is one of the easiest actors to handle I have ever worked with,” said Bill Graham during an interview with The Liverpool Echo. Graham served as one of the directors of the 1960s Batman series. “Also, he is very intelligent in his work,” said Graham. “He understands exactly what he has to do, and how we are trying to get this special effect we want.”

West’s hard work and patience served him well. While Batman relied on plenty of comedic relief to entertain audiences, filming the series was no laughing matter.

“It’s a hard series to make,” said Graham, “We have not really settled down to a definite style yet. I shall be making two or three of these, and there will be other directors, so everyone can bring to Batman their own ideas and talent.”

Of course, the best quality for any actor to have is flexibility and a willingness to take changes as they come. West seemed to have a knack for this, making him the perfect man for the series.

“We always like to go for the truth of the scene,” said Graham. “There are all sorts of new ideas we are putting into the Batman series...Each episode has something special, we hope.”
