Can you guess which show William Christopher is on?
The M*A*S*H star played priests, doctors and military members all on separate shows!
William Christopher’s beloved role as Father Mulcahy in M*A*S*H came seven years into his Hollywood career, which is actually short by some standards (just ask Grandma Walton, Ellen Corby). But it means he appeared on plenty of other classic sitcoms before gaining national fame.
Add to that the many parts he played after his time in the 4077th and you get enough roles for a quiz! Here is William Christopher on TV from the Sixties to the Nineties. Can you guess each show he appeared on?

I like William Christopher but he is a one note actor. You are never going to see him trying
to shoot Barnaby Jones, or start up a numbers operation on Hill Street Blues.
Heck, even Aunt Bee was knocking off banks on 77 Sunset Strip, Andy was a crook on Hawaii
5-0, Floyd played every type of role you can think of, especially on radio.
And Millie from the bakery was excellent as a corrupt town official on Rockford Files.
"Egg roll" was a light comedy, so I disagree on that one, he wasn't doing a serious
role as the hippie. But I do give you "Murder She Wrote", going by your description, but I
wonder if he got that murderer gig precisely because he was so unlikely to be the killer.
I am not attacking him, rather noting he is a niche actor, like a Ronnie Schell, there has
always been a place for them in acting companies. And William Christopher is not exactly
Spencer Tracy or Brando, he is a comedic foil type.
There is a need for them, they can have nice little careers. Not everyone can be the
star or do the real meaty roles.
"what MASH star played the Mayberry town doctor?"
A bit of misdirection, they always assume the answer is a actor like Alda or Rogers who
played MASH doctors and rack their brains trying to remember if they appeared
on The Andy Griffith Show or Mayberry RFD.
They are always surprised when I tell them it was William Christopher.
