Meet Ian: Inside the Collection

Remember to follow the rules!

Oct. 4, 2026

Ian knows how to follow the rules, the Mogwai rules, that is. A lifelong collector of all things Gremlins, Ian has dedicated himself to preserving the legacy of the cult-classic creatures, converting his home office into a museum filled with props, puppets and memorabilia from the films.

The details are important in this collection, and so are the rules! Ian has around 500 items altogether, including 24 Gremlin puppets.

You could say this collection has really multiplied after midnight! Take a look!

1. Gremlins Hand Puppet

This is one of the pieces that started it all! In 2020, Ian found this puppet from Gremlins in pretty rough shape, but he was ready to bring it back to life.

The Gremlins in the first film looked very similar, making it difficult to screen-match this particular puppet. Still, Ian took on the restoration and gave the piece life.

According to our expert, this prop is especially rare because many of the original puppets have deteriorated over time, making Ian's restoration all the more important. Today, the piece is valued at around $70,000.

2. Mohawk Mogwai Puppet

This is Mohawk from Gremlins 2, shown in his Mogwai form, the cute, cuddly stage before things get a little more chaotic. Of course, feed him after midnight and that adorable Mogwai turns into a full-grown Gremlin.

This puppet has all of its animatronic wires exposed, offering a fascinating look at the intricate mechanics that brought the character to life.

According to our expert, the puppet may be smaller than some of the other figures, but the sheer number of wires packed inside shows just how intricate the restoration was.

This little Mogwai may look innocent, but he's no small piece of the collection. Our expert valued it at $50,000.

3. Greta Gremlin Puppet

It's time for a little Gremlin girl power! This is Greta Gremlin, the only female Gremlin in Gremlins 2. She was rigged to perform a kissing motion and even flutter her eyes, giving this glamorous Gremlin plenty of personality.

Back in 1989, this was state-of-the-art animatronic technology. Ian had to make a major trade to add Greta to his collection, but he knew she was worth it. After all, you don't let a Gremlin like this get away!

According to our expert, this one-of-a-kind piece would be valued at around $140,000.

4. Gizmo's Corvette

This is about as iconic a prop as it gets from the original Gremlins. In one of the film's most memorable scenes, Gizmo gets behind the wheel of a Corvette in a toy store and races off to save the day.

The car started as a Barbie Dream Car, but the rest was custom-built to bring Gizmo's ride to life. A remote control was used to drive the car around with Gizmo behind the wheel. Original Gizmo puppets from the first film are extremely rare because many deteriorated over time, making it even more special that Ian has one of his own.

According to our expert, the Corvette is particularly interesting because it began as an off-the-shelf toy rather than a handmade prop. That makes this little ride one rare Gremlin accessory. Our expert valued it at $50,000.

5. Bat Gremlin Puppet

This is one of Ian's favorite pieces in his entire collection! Batgremlin from Gremlins 2 was one of the most unusual designs in the entire movie, with giant wings that made this Gremlin impossible to forget.

The puppet could literally fly with the help of a crane, bringing the wild design to life on screen. Batgremlin was one of the many uniquely designed Gremlins created in the lab after the creatures drank the serum.

According to our expert, it's a massive piece that fans will instantly recognize.

Our expert valued Batgremlin at $85,000. That's a price that really flies high, just like this Gremlin!

6. Hero Animitronic Gizmo

Meet the main hero of Gremlins: Gizmo! This puppet was used for actual on-screen acting, with giant animatronic puppets like this one essentially serving as 1980s-era robots to bring the characters to life.

This was the second puppet Ian ever added to his collection. Unfortunately, Gizmo was damaged in transit and even arrived missing a finger. But Ian got him restored, and now his adorable expression looks better than ever.

Gizmo is one of the most recognizable characters from the Gremlins films, making this an especially significant piece. According to our expert, it's a huge puppet, even though it appeared much smaller on screen. It also took multiple people to operate, adding to the complexity and value of the piece.

Our expert valued this hero Gizmo puppet at $200,000.
