Meet David Alpert: Inside the Collection

In a world full of Grumpys, Sleepys, and Sneezys, it’s okay to be a Dopey.

Jun. 21, 2026

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs are usually a package deal, but not for David. David is a Disney fan with a distinctly focused collection featuring his favorite dwarf, Dopey.

His passion began when he was just three or four years old during a visit to Disneyland. His mom gave him his very first Dopey toy, and he fell in love with the character’s eternally optimistic spirit.

Today, he has around 200 pieces. While there are seven dwarfs, he chooses Dopey every time, focusing on just one-seventh of the iconic Disney group.

David hopes his time on the show encourages others to find their own joy. Take a look!

1. Dopey Figurine

Let’s take you back to where it all began for David! This is the first Dopey item he ever received.

It’s a Dopey and Snow White toy from the Disneyland Emporium in the late ’80s that his mom gave him. It’s the piece that sparked his passion.

According to David, the classic pose Dopey is striking is also the inspiration for his first tattoo. True Dopey dedication.

It’s one of the most important pieces in his collection and evokes a great deal of nostalgia for him.

According to our expert, while it’s priceless to David, the piece would be worth around $10. The emotional value outweighs the monetary value.

2. Original Disneyland Sketches

David considers this one of the coolest pieces he owns!

It’s a sketch of what the original Snow White attraction would become at Disneyland. It includes early ride vehicles featuring Dopey, along with pencil line work from Disney Imagineers.

It combines his love of Dopey and Disneyland all in one piece. It’s also a true piece of Disney and Dopey history.

The sketch dates back to around 1953, and really makes the Disney magic come to life.

According to our expert, this piece would be around $5,000 today. While the Imagineers created it, David never imagined it would be worth that much.

3. Steiff Teddy Bear Dopey

This is a Steiff Dopey teddy bear, and while it’s cute to look at, it also cost a nice chunk of change. But for Dopey, it's worth every penny for David.

This limited edition was released in 2025 as part of a collaboration between Steiff and Walt Disney. In fact, it’s so rare that only 2,000 were produced.

According to our expert, Steiff has been around since 1880, and by 1907 had sold around a million bears. The company has partnered with Disney for more than 95 years, making the duo just as iconic as the Seven Dwarfs themselves.

In five to 10 years, David could be looking at a piece worth around $500.

4. Dopey Nutcracker

This is the type of piece that drives Dopey fans "nuts," literally!

This is a Dopey nutcracker from the Disney Store. Not only did David collect Dopey, but he also collected nutcrackers, so this combines two of his interests.

This is a decorative piece, not for actual use, but it means a lot to him as a fun conversation starter.

He acquired it in the mid-’90s and still has the original packaging, which, as all Collector’s Call fans know by now, is often the most important part.

According to our expert, anything "with the box" is code for higher value. This would be worth around $100 today.

It’s Snow White-approved for collectors who like their collectibles just a little nutty.

5. Gallery of Light Miniature

This beautiful piece is called a Gallery of Light. It features an intricately designed diorama of a Disney scene that lights up, bringing the artwork to life.

It was a gift in 2019 and is considered a rare item because of its artistry and three-dimensional design. For David, it checks all the boxes.

The artist was commissioned by Disney and specialized in highly detailed miniatures. It captures a moment in Disney history and transforms it into a work of art.

According to our expert, the piece would be worth around $100 today. This collectible really lets David’s love of Disney shine.

6. Dopey Animation Cel

This was the very first animation cel David added to his collection. In the early days of animation, every frame of a movie was drawn and painted by hand, making the process incredibly time-consuming.

Today, those original cels remain as lasting pieces of animation history.

David loves owning a small piece of Snow White as part of a much larger story in film history. He found this cel in 2020 and enjoys the connection it gives him to the artists who created it nearly 100 years ago.

According to our expert, this piece would be worth around $6,000 today. Since no more original production cels are being made, pieces like this are likely to become even more valuable over time.

But to David, it’s priceless. It’s no Dopey investment, and owning an original piece of Snow White feels like a fairytale ending.
