The company Funko recently released a line of action figures modeled after Dorothy, Blanche, Rose and Sophia from The Golden Girls. The highly anticipated set was revealed last weekend at New York Comic Con.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the box set featuring the four lead characters flew off the shelves at the event. In fact, attendees had to win a raffle just to stand in line in order to have a chance to buy the hot commodity.
ABC News reports demand for the product almost kept it from being released on time.
"The response to our Golden Girls products has been wild," said Mark Robben, director of marketing at Funko. "We created these as a passion project initially, and were blown away when it started trending on social media."
If you're looking to get your hands on these golden action figures, you may be out of luck. The set was exclusively sold at New York Comic Con for $25. However, you can find a few sets for sale on eBay for about ten times that price.
Earlier this summer, Funko released another line of action figures modeled after The Golden Girls that have more cartoonish features.
The Golden Girls remains a popular sitcom more than 20 years after it went off the air. Recently, it was announced a restaurant dedicated to Rue McClanahan would open in New York City later this year. A puppet show parody of the sitcom also opens Monday in the same city.
This begs the questions, what other characters would you like to see be made into action figures?
