Frank Gorshin once took the Batmobile for a joy ride
Riddle me this, Batman!
Of course, we’re not advocating for villainy, but every now and again, a bit of tomfoolery is totally acceptable.
While plenty of Batman villains today are primed for treachery, those involved in the 1960s Batman series had a much gentler energy. Sure, they were plotting to destroy the dynamic duo, but they were more corny than truly evil, and audiences always knew that Batman was more than capable of defeating any villain who came his way.
Actor Joey Tata, who frequently played a villain alongside Frank Gorshin’s Riddler, recalled one time when the two got into some trouble of their own when they took the Batmobile out for a quick spin.
Tata remembered the experience during an interview for The Official Batman Batbook, by Joel Eisner.
“Gorshin and I stole the Batmobile once,” said Tata. “We had this running shot, where we would get into the Batmobile and just take off. That was the cut, but we kept going and kept laughing. Frank says, ‘Do you believe this? Where are we going to go with this? I said, ‘Why don’t we use all of the lines? You’ll say, ‘Hi, park this.’ No one will question us because you have question marks all over your green underwear, and I am walking around with this pasty look on my face. But we never did leave the studio.”
