Betty White reveals her Golden Girls fashion secrets
It's not easy being iconic!
You might expect Betty White to get all her clothes from some Beverly Hills boutique, where she and other celebs overspend for the latest and most daring fashions. After all, even before Golden Girls, she'd been working for decades. White was a pioneer of early television— why shouldn't she enjoy the trappings of TV fame by dishing out for expensive duds?
The truth, though, might seem a bit more... relatable to the average viewer. After all, while we'd love to don the garb of the rich and famous, few of us can actually afford to browse!
In a 1985 interview, White spoke to Gannett News Service about her shopping habit (or lack thereof).

*available in most MeTV markets"I buy almost 99 percent of my clothes through catalogs because there's simply no time to go shopping. I'm on everybody's catalog list.
I really don't care about a designer's name. I just look for clothes that I like. Trends like men's jackets, shirts, ties and stuff, they don't turn me on— unless they're on a man!"
Instead, White described her personal fashion sense as "pretty classic... probably very 'outre,' as they say... It's just that there are certain things you're comfortable in."
True to her word, White let the acting do the talking, rather than adorn herself in some over-the-top clothes for her big roles. She did, however, find one area of fashion particularly interesting: White liked colors.
"Colors affect your mood so much, or at least they do mine... you respond to colors," she said. "For instance, I love browns and beiges on other people, but I just don't feel good in them. I prefer the watercolors— blues and greens, plums, deep aquas, teal, sapphire."
So there you have it. For the perfect Betty White costume, it's not about the brand. Instead, it's totally about the vibe.
