According to Rue McClanahan, The Golden Girls set was the hottest spot in town for guest stars
"Actors love to do guest shots on our show because it’s so easygoing and cheerful."
With four lovely and talented ladies leading the cast of The Golden Girls, one shouldn’t be surprised that the series was a sought-after project for many guest stars.
“We have the reputation of being one of the best sets to work on,” said Rue McClanahan, who played Blanche Devereaux during an interview with The Daily Chronicle. “Actors love to do guest shots on our show because it’s so easygoing and cheerful. There aren’t any egoes at work.”
The cast of The Golden Girls was a powerhouse of talent, including experienced actors like Betty White and Bea Arthur. McClanahan believed the root of the show’s success lay in the writing. “Three reasons: scripts, scripts, scripts,” said the actor.

Not only was McClanahan passionate about her craft, but she was also rigorous in her performance. “I hate to relax,” said the actor. “I can kick back for about two weeks, and then I start crawling the walls. This hiatus, I have seven weeks off. That’s plenty!”
More than anything, the high quality of the series kept actors like McClanahan returning for more every season. “If I’m asked, I certainly would consider staying,” said the actor. “I don’t think I’ll ever find a better job on television.”
