The stranger would go on to play the Mayor in the Newhart show 1982-1990. A verry funny show, Green Acres in Vermont.
Some trivia: The actor who plays George Sapperly, the guy who owns the gas station is played by Bill Erwin. He also played the grumpy old man Sid Fields in the Seinfeld episode "The Old Man." He was also in Home Alone.
Strange fact: Technically, this Is the Christmas episode because it ran on December 25th, 1960! The one we all remember played on the 18th!
