Whether you believe in a higher power or not, you can’t deny that sometimes, something somewhere is looking out for your best interest. At least, that’s the sort of optimistic outlook that William Christopher liked to keep up with. As an actor, Christopher became best known as M*A*S*H's resident man of the cloth, Father Mulcahey.

Mulcahey provided a level head to 4077th, as well as a kind ear when characters came to share their own issues. Off-screen, Christopher explained that a healthy heaping of luck was to be credited for his frequent success.

“Looking back on my career, I’ve been fortunate to be in the right place at the right time,” Christopher said during an interview with The Lima News. “I took what came along, and I’ve had some wonderful experiences and worked with some great actors...It was a treat to be so involved in such a classy show. Great writers and a great cast. The anti-war theme was strong, but it was a comedy throughout. Of course, it was wonderful knowing, as an actor, that you would have work, and M*A*S*H was easily renewed for 11 seasons. It gave me a wonderful security.”

In spite of all of the successes, Christopher wasn’t willing to slow down after M*A*S*H ended in 1983.

“Television has been very good to me,” said the actor, “but I just like to keep working.”
