Starring in M*A*S*H wasn’t just an opportunity for Mike Farrell to break into television stardom; the fame and wealth gave Farrell an opportunity to assist in matters that were truly important.

Farrell, a lifelong healthy eater, revealed that he recently bought a vegetarian Philadelphia restaurant, “Our Contribution.”

“I used to be one of their best customers,” Farrell said during an interview with the Philadelphia Daily News. “I’m a natural food person.” When the restaurant was on the verge of closing, Farrell bought out the establishment, becoming a central figure in the restaurant industry.

“I have a say in everything here,” said the actor. “I have a wonderful group of people who not only work here but share the same philosophy as I do in terms of putting out the kind of food we’re putting out and the kind of statement we want to make: a concern for people and a concern for life. People should profit by what they eat. Somehow I have the idea that what you eat is somehow reflected in who you are, how you feel, your appreciation of life.”

Keeping an appreciation for life was something that Farrell kept constant in all aspects of his life.

M*A*S*H frequently broached tough topics, offering an outlet for audiences to explore heavy themes in a comfortable way.

“I feel awfully good about what this show has done, and I’m not just talking about making people happier,” said Farrell during an interview with the San Antonio Light. “I’ve gotten reactions about the significant effect M*A*S*H has had on people’s lives…If all we ever did on the show is make the statement that people are valuable, it’s worth everything we’ve ever done.”
