Loretta Swit was once asked what she'd be doing if M*A*S*H had never happened — Here's what she said
"There's always been a curiosity," said the actor.

Everyone has a collection of "What if" moments throughout their life. What if you hadn't accepted that opportunity? What if you said no when you should have said yes? People can spend their entire lives wondering what their lives might have been like if they had moved in a slightly different direction. But to spend time worrying is to waste your life.
Loretta Swit loved her time playing Margaret Houlihan on the hit series M*A*S*H, but she was only human. When asked during an interview with The Grand Rapids Press whether she ever considered what her life would have been like if she hadn't starred in M*A*S*H, she was honest.
"There's always been a curiosity," said the actor. "You speculate about the options, but you've got to realize that speculating is all you can do. So much of life is luck. One day, you make a right turn and get hit by a car. Turn left and you meet the love of your life."
But starring in M*A*S*H was the opportunity of a lifetime for Swit in more ways than one. Not only did it make her a television star, but it also gave her a chance to forge lasting friendships with co-stars like Alan Alda.
"He gave me the confidence I lacked in the beginning, and now it's a beautiful, solidly based friendship, and love," said Swit of Alda during an interview with The Toronto Star. "We've been like one big family," said Swit.
True, there were plenty of directions that Loretta Swit's life might have turned, but we're grateful that things happened the way they did, and that we had an opportunity to love her as much as her castmates did. "I think I made the correct turn," said Swit.
