During an interview with the Archive of American Television, Knotts recalled the years he spent working on The Andy Griffith Show as some of the happiest of his life. As much as Knotts made audiences laugh, they were nothing compared to the laughter that was experienced on the set of The Andy Griffith Show.

In the interview, Knotts revealed that one of his favorite episodes of the series was actually "The Pickle Story." The episode is a fan-favorite amongst audiences, possibly the most popular episode of the entire series. Knotts said that he loved the episode because of the joy he experienced while filming.

"It was a nice, sweet story, but it had a lot of fun to it," said the actor. "It was one of my favorite episodes. Because they kept shooting these scenes over and over again, we had to keep eating these pickles. I don't know how many we ate that day."
