Despite what critics may have thought, there was little drama behind the scenes of Charlie's Angels
There was no bad blood between Angels!
Even the kindest people love to hear a bit of gossip every now and then. Good gossip unites us as a society and gives us all one shared interest: Dirt.
It feels like a show like Charlie’s Angels appeared out of thin air, zipping to the top of the television ratings. Executive producer Aaron Spelling was more than proud of the series for its success. However, the show’s prosperity put a massive target on its back.
“Charlie’s Angels was so huge that, naturally, the press wrote hundreds of stories about the show,” Spelling wrote in his memoir, Aaron Spelling: A Prime-Time Life. “They always seemed to be looking for dirt.”
Spelling called many rumors regarding the series “pure, untrue trash.” He was particularly critical of claims that, behind the scenes, the stars of the series didn’t get along.
“Sure, some things got testy once in a while, but we were all friends then, and we’re still friends today,” wrote Spelling.
The fact of the matter is that working on Charlie’s Angels was a difficult job, one that any actor had to devote their heart and soul to. It took a lot out of those playing Angels, both physically and mentally.
“Charlie’s Angels was a really tough show to make,” wrote Spelling. “Each week we undertook a big action adventure, and that’s not easy to pull off. Building a show around three beautiful women is difficult because they were usually in every scene together, and since the show was built around their beauty, we had to spend many more hours than usual on making sure their hair, makeup, and clothes were all perfect. So a lot of time on the set was spent waiting.”
