Peter Cushing gladly accepted his title in horror history

“Well, I know that a lot of people think of me as Frankenstein, and I accept it,” said the actor.

At the end of the day, acting is just like any other job. Sure, there’s glitz and glamour involved; however, it also requires hard work if you want a paycheck at the end of the day.

Of course, Peter Cushing’s grit and determination made him a formidable performer. The actor frequently appeared in horror films like The Horror of Frankenstein (1970) and Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell (1974).

“I have never gotten fed up with playing these roles,” said Cushing during an interview with the Lancashire Telegraph. “Take Ford motor cars, for instance. They are not the biggest cars, the most expensive cars, and they don’t look all that different, but year after year, people keep buying them, because they like them. I have made other films as well, of course, but I enjoy horror…or fantasy is probably a better word.”

Moreover, horror was consistently in demand.

“People enjoy these kinds of films, and it isn’t a bad idea to look at things from the point of view of the audience,” said Cushing. “They have to pay to go see the films, and if that is what they like, then we should give it to them. I am also very lucky to be working, considering the many hundreds of talented actors who are out of work today.”

“Well, I know that a lot of people think of me as Frankenstein, and I accept it,” said the actor. “I shall carry on playing the role for as long as they want me. But one thing that you must remember when we make these films, we don’t do it tongue-in-cheek. We do it absolutely straight, perfectly sincerely and seriously. It just would not work any other way.”
