Bea Arthur said she wouldn't do another television series after The Golden Girls
"When you’re doing a series, there’s no other life," said the actor.
Nobody understood the machine of television better than Bea Arthur. After a fan-favorite guest appearance on All in the Family, Arthur starred in the wildly popular 1970s sitcom, Maude. In the 1980s, she again graced our screens in The Golden Girls. Arthur starred in the series alongside co-stars Betty White, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty.
Though The Golden Girls enjoyed a successful seven seasons, when the time came for it to end, Arthur was ready to leave television behind. Later, when McClanahan, White, and Getty starred in the spinoff series, The Golden Palace, Arthur did not join them. During an interview with The Connecticut Post, Arthur revealed that she had no interest in starring in another television program.
“I absolutely will not do another because it’s too time-consuming,” said the actor. “When you’re doing a series, there’s no other life. And creatively, I don’t find it as rewarding as live theater.”
