Alan Hale Jr. once took a shot at ''phony'' actors
"I haven't met an actor yet who doesn't love his work, even when he appears not to," said the Gilligan's Island actor.

Of all the reputations to have in Hollywood, "least controversial" isn't necessarily a bad one to have. Known for his warm demeanor and incredible acting ability, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better man than Alan Hale Jr. on your film set.
While plenty of actors thrive on dramatics, Hale was quite proud of his reputation as a "safe" actor.
"You're not going to get much of an interview out of me," said Hale, according to an article with the Paducah Sun. "I'm not in the least controversial. I love people, and, if I have any enemies, they haven't told me about it yet."
But just because he wasn't controversial didn't mean that he was devoid of any opinions, especially regarding his fellow actors.
During that same interview, the Gilligan's Island actor claimed that many performers who lean into the overdramatics were only doing so out of a need for attention.
"Sure, there are a lot of actors who scream and cry, but they're as phony as a nine-dollar bill," said the actor. "Believe me, while you may think they're unhappy, they're actually enjoying their emotional outbursts."
In fact, Hale even placed a bit of the blame on newspaper reporters, who flocked to actors' sob stories in an effort to claim it as front-page news.
"If you fellows would stop printing their moans, they'd stop moaning," said Hale. "I haven't met an actor yet who doesn't love his work, even when he appears not to."
