Do you know your pasta shapes?

Fun fact – it's National Pasta Day in the U.S.! 

We all have a favorite shape that pairs with a favorite sauce. Many people grew up with a spaghetti dinner during the week, others spent entire Sundays folding fresh sheets of pasta with their families. There are over 600 different, specific names and types of pasta – everyone, in some way, has a pasta they are fond of.

More specifically, we're looking at Italian pasta shapes. They come from different regions of the country and all serve special purposes, but at the end of the day, these delightful pieces of dough are all delicious! 

We want to know if you are a concessioner of these Italian pasta shapes. Do you know them by their proper Italian names? Give it a try and see what you know!

  1. The name of these familiar shapes literally translates to "butterflies," but are often called bow ties.
  2. These corkscrew-shaped macaroni noodles are perfect for holding a cheesy, thick sauce.
  3. These little bowl-shaped noodles look a lot like little ears – which is the translation of the pasta name!
  4. These medium-sized tubes are cut diagonally on the ends. They can either be smooth or ridged.
  5. Can you hear the ocean in these shell-shaped pasta? These can be found in all different size, but always have these distinct shape.
  6. This curly piece of pasta covers a wide range of helical shapes. It's is perfect for holding semi-thick and light sauces in its ridges.
  7. These flattened, bell-shaped pasta with a frilly edge on one end is intended to be served with a thick sauce or in a casserole.
  8. These fun shapes look like tiny wagon wheels.
  9. Tube-shaped, smooth, fillable pasta that is either rolled fresh around a filling, or purchased dry and filled after boiling.
  10. These unique pieces are named after a famous volcano, and look like it rising from the earth.

Pretty easy 100...pasta shapes are one of those random things I can pride myself on being good at identifying. x-3 Left out my favorite (the tennis-racket-shaped Racchette), but Rotelle might be #2. Love Campanelle and various others too. :3

I only got eight, mostly educated guesses. I guess that's what I get after watching so many "Best Ever Trivia Show" episodes, you pick up on little things and get a cryptic clue from them.
