Every Lynda Carter 'Wonder Woman' costume, ranked in order of wondrousness
Do you prefer her in a blue wetsuit or a cape?
Though Wonder Woman ran just three seasons, the superhero showed off a wide array of looks. And we're not just talking about the killer 1970s fashions that Diana Prince wore in her everyday life.
Wonder Woman herself had an awesome variety of costumes on the television show. The character had an equally diverse sartorial history in the pages of her comic books, where artists depicted her wearing everything from a white jumpsuit to a black jacket and pants.
On the small screen, Diana Prince summoned several functional outfits with her magical twirl. She had get-ups for land, sea and… er, skates.
Here is our subjective look at Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman costumes. Frankly, they're all great — far more bright and inspiring than some of the muddy, overly articulated looks you'll find in modern comic book movies. Which one is your favorite?
1. The primary costume, WWII era
This is THE Wonder Woman costume. It's hard to top. There are some subtle differences between the first season iteration and the later look. There are more stars on her shorts, of varying sizes, which gives it more pop. The gold eagle on her red bustier is more avian and condensed, compared to the sort of palm tree look you will see below. It's hard to image any live action Wonder Woman topping this.
2. The Western look
Yes, we are stirring things up with this highly underrated ensemble. Wonder Woman wears it just once, in "The Bushwhackers," but it seems far more comfortable and functional. Well, aside from all the stains she's likely to get on those breezy pantaloons. The designers were able to modernize her look, while still keeping a timeless, casual style.
3. The primary look, modern era
Again, it's hard to top the classic, but the few aforementioned tweaks bring it down a notch. The golden palm styling on her top dates it a bit to the 1970s.
4. The Motocross Suit
The blue wetsuit turns up in a handful of episodes — whenever our hero needs to go underwater or on a motorcycle — and remains a fan favorite. We love the biking look with the extra accessories. She rocks those goggles.
5. The formal cape
Eat your heart out, Superman! Wonder Woman can sport an awesome cape, too. Note her formal skirt, as well, with retrained application of stars. We'll talk more about the skirt below.
6. The original skirt
The rarest of all onscreen Wonder Woman looks, this skirted costume appeared only in the 1975 pilot film The New Original Wonder Woman, given to her by Queen Hippolyta (Cloris Leachman). It's close to our hearts, as it's a dead ringer for the character's original look in 1942 comic books.
7. The blue wetsuit
The blue wetsuit made its first appearance here, in the early season two episode "The Bermuda Triangle Crisis." Later, in "The Deadly Dolphin," she is able to quickly summon fins on her feet, too.
8. The Paradise Island look
At the start of the second season, Wonder Woman switched networks, jumped eras, and retraced some of her origin story. At home on Paradise Island, Diana Prince sports this beachy look, alongside her recast queen (Beatrice Straight). Some subtle differences improve her native look, especially the more detailed belt which mirrors her headband. No, she doesn't have wings, that's just clever framing. We do love this shot.
9. The Skateboarder
It's a very specific look, but at least Wonder Woman demonstrates proper skateboarding safety with her helmet and pads, despite being practically invulnerable and stuff. The elbow details are pretty sweet.
10. The original Paradise Island look
Here we see the original pilot look of the Paradise Island look from a couple spots above. We're not crazy about Wonder Woman in a mask. That's Batman's thing. Or Green Hornet's, or Green Lantern's, etc. Besides, this looks like a basic Zorro Halloween mask. The No. 33 in Roman numerals is not as stylish as the later top, either. Oh, and a blonde Wonder Woman? She looks more like one of Charlie's reserve Angels.
11. The Gold Mask
Yeah, like we said, Wonder Woman in a mask just feels off.

But I digress here, you haven't seen all of Wonder Woman with out seeing the screen test of Ellie Walker. It gets good at the 3:00 mark.
