Say goodbye to three classic Monopoly board game tokens

Hasbro's new pieces come in with a roar and a quack.

An old-fashioned wheelbarrow, a thimble and a worn leather boot do not exactly excite the children of today. It's no wonder — these iconic Monopoly tokens date back to the Great Depression.

Today, Hasbro announced that those three quaint game pieces would be replaced. Two months ago, we told you about Habro's open vote to let fans select the new Monopoly tokens. The options included everything from hastags and emojis to aircraft and footwear.

However, it seems like most people are animal lovers.

Meet the penguin, the T. rex and the rubber ducky, the three new tokens which will join the Scottie dog, the cat, the car, a battleship and top hat. Pretty solid selections, if you ask us. The new trio seem like things you would find in Batman's retro Batcave.

“The next generation of tokens clearly represents the interests of our fans around the world, and we’re proud to have our iconic game impacted by the people that feel most passionate about playing it,” Jonathan Berkowitz, senior vice president of marketing for Hasbro Gaming said in a statement.

What do you think? Did you play with the thimble or wheelbarrow as a kid? We were pretty locked into Scottie, personally.
