5 must-see episodes on MeTV this week of November 14

Spock turns cowboy and Thanksgiving kicks off.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and our holiday programming is about to kick into high gear. We'll get into more of that with our final selection. But we begin with a couple episodes that are of note for interesting little reasons…

The Twilight Zone "A World of His Own"
Tuesday 15 at 12:30AM | 11:30C

In the season one finale, a writer, Gregory West, discovers that this creations come to life, much to the consternation of his wife. (We won't give the ending away, just in case you've managed to avoid the spoiler for half a century.) Overall, the show strikes a more lighthearted tone here, turning more towards comedy than suspense. Yet what makes this tale particularly fascinating is that it is the only episode that brings Rod Serling into the narrative in a meta way, as the host is revealed to be one of West's creations, as well.

Bonanza "Riot"
Wednesday 16 at 2PM | 1C

This late episode, which revolves around a prison riot, features many comings and goings with notable cast members. It is the first episode with Tim Matheson, introducing his Griff King character. Meanwhile, "Riot" marks the final Bonzana appearance of great Western character actors like Aldo Ray, Denver Pyle and William Bryant.

Star Trek "Spectre of the Gun"
Saturday 19 at 9PM | 8C

Spock as a cowboy? When visiting a xenophobic, isolationist planet, Captain Kirk and his landing party are punished for trespassing. They are sentenced to death in a surreal recreation of the Gunfight at the OK Corral.

Planet of the Apes "The Tyrant"
Sunday 20 at 5AM | 4C

Roddy McDowall (Galen) and Trek veteran Mark Lenard (Urko) are fabulous behind the makeup in this gripping episode, which spotlights McDowall more than the others. Galen and his two human compatriots are forced into confronting General Urko when trying to disrupt the plans of a tyrannical ape, and it adds up to one of the stronger stories in the brief series.

The Bob Newhart Show "Over the River and Through the Woods"
Sunday 20 at 11:30PM | 10:30C

It's a stag Thanksgiving for Bob when his wife jets off for a family reunion. That means a turkey dinner with the boys. Tune in earlier in the day to get a filling of similarly holiday-themed episodes of The Love Boat (5PM | 4C) and Cheers (11PM | 10C).
